Duisburg gets on board with MICROBUS (PR)
"By introducing the MICROBUS vehicle and duty scheduling system, we hope to work together better with public transport companies in the neighbouring cities of Mülheim, Oberhausen and Essen. We want to coordinate planning work with our partners and thereby reduce the cost of preparing our timetable and duty schedules. Optimising processes with MICROBUS will help lower our operating costs even further," says Rolf Krußmann, head of the planning department at Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft.
The public transport companies of the cities of Duisburg, Oberhausen, Essen and Mülheim all operate vehicles in the networks of the neighbouring towns. Over the long term, they hope to simplify planning by sharing a common database. MICROBUS supports the optimisation of transport services throughout the network of meo-partners and Duisburg. The goal of this cooperative effort is to bring the public transport companies in line with the competition and streamline public transport services, while simultaneously cutting costs for the cities.
Although all companies currently use their own databases, they will combine them into a standard database at a later date. They plan to gradually standardize all data conventions and integrate the databases.
The public transport companies of Duisburg, which has a population of 580,000, currently use 60 light rail trains and 180 busses to transport over 54 million passengers a year.
