i.box printer gaining ground (PR)
The new on-board computers simplify ticket sales, provide loudspeaker announcements in MP3 format and collect data on the busses. In addition to ticket sales data, they also receive and record AVL-related data, thereby optimising vehicle deployment and operations.
The data is transmitted wirelessly to the main control centre in Saalfeld, which is connected to the new control centre in Lobenstein via a dedicated line. OVO invested in additional base stations for wireless transmission of the on-board computer data. This move was necessary in order to ensure reliable data transmissions in the Thuringian Forest, with its mountainous terrain.
As an especially practical service for passengers, the i.box printer also sells combination tickets for riding the bus and visiting the thermal bath. Thanks to IVU's AFAB software, the public transport company and thermal bath operator no longer have problems dividing up their earnings. The i.box printer supplies the sales data stored during the trip to the central AFAB accounting system, whose statistics make it easy for OVO to calculate the share of earnings for the thermal bath.

BON is an automatic vehicle location (AVL) and information system for public transport. BON optimises operations through reliable disruption management. It helps secure connections through computer aided dispatching (CAD), reports real time ops data, displays actual vehicle movements tabularly and graphically, and operates and controls integrated voice radio. The modular system offers each public transport company a custom-made configuration, e.g. with integrated real time passenger information, network solutions for several control centres, display of GIS data, video control. Open interfaces enable easy data exchange with a number of planning and scheduling systems, on-board computers, passenger information systems and other CAD/AVL systems.
AFAB is a ticketing system for public transport which integrates all types of fare collection and payment options.
