IVU.charge triggers an electric start for RVBW

Berlin, 17 July 2024 | Regionale Verkehrsbetriebe Baden-Wettingen (RVBW) has set yet another milestone for Swiss electromobility with the help of IVU’s end-to-end solution for load and charging management, IVU.charge.

Around a quarter of RVBW’s fleet is already electric and the Swiss regional transport operator has its sights set on electrifying its entire fleet by 2030. To keep these electric buses running smoothly, RVBW has been working alongside general contractor Daimler Buses Schweiz AG and SBB to develop a bespoke solution for load and charging management.

Ten recently procured eCitaro buses inspired RVBW’s decision to opt for a depot charging strategy, which utilises a Pantograph Down charging system. As part of this project, IVU.charge guarantees intelligent charging management by optimising power distribution and maximising the efficiency of charging infrastructure. This purpose-built IVU software can also seamlessly transfer additional functions and commands to buses via the OMNIplus ON-Cloud.

"Purchasing and deploying these ten eCitaro vehicles is a significant step towards our goal of electrifying the entire bus fleet. This project is incredibly important to us and has been a great success thanks to the outstanding cooperation of everyone involved,” says Werner Fischer, Chief Technology Officer and Managing Board Member at RVBW.

Marc Schaffert, Managing Director of IVU Traffic Technologies Schweiz AG, added: "Alongside our partner Daimler Buses, we have implemented a new and unprecedented standard solution for RVBW. Over several weeks of intensive testing, we have been able to optimise this solution so that all interfaces run smoothly."
