For decades, the IVU.ticket.box has been a durable, powerful, and high-performance solution for public transport. Now in its fifth generation (G5), the onboard computer provides all the necessary functionalities in the vehicle to handle ticket sales and ticket inspection efficiently and also to coordinate the operation of buses and ships.
As a digital control centre, the IVU.ticket.box on-board computer is equipped with powerful industrial processors. Thanks to brightness sensors and a scratch-resistant glass surface, the 10-inch, anti-glare multi-touch display offers optimum ease of use in everyday use - even in demanding lighting conditions.
The integrated ticket printer produces high-resolution tickets for good legibility. Easy‑Load technology makes it easy to change the paper roll, while flexible adjustments to paper width and thickness and an integrated cutter (for partial and full cut) ensure fast, paper jam-free printing.
A barcode reader and an NFC reader are available to passengers for checking electronic and barcode tickets. A contactless bank card reader can also be installed if required, allowing customers to pay for their tickets directly without cash using credit or debit cards. The bank card reader also supports Account Based Ticketing, where passengers can use their payment card or smartphone without selecting a fare or registering. Billing is processed automatically in the background. The large, colourful customer display clearly shows all relevant information to passengers.
In combination with the IVU.box.gateway, the on-board computer converts all digital and analog vehicle signals into Ethernet data packets. This ensures smooth communication within the vehicle and with the control centre and uninterrupted control of all peripheral devices.
The IVU.ticket.box on-board computer is fully certified for in-vehicle operation and VDV-compliant for use as a sales and control terminal. Thanks to its modular design, it is equipped for at least ten years of intensive use in buses, on ships and in advance sales offices and therefore offers a future-proof solution for local public transport.
Wide range of ticketing options –

Optimised for train operation without ticketing
The right solution for every vehicle - with the IVU.box.touch, the IVU.box.panel and the mobile IVU.tablet, IVU offers suitable on-board computers for travelling in buses and trams that do not require integrated ticket sales or ticket inspection functions.
The IVU.box.touch on-board computer, the IVU.box.panel and the mobile IVU.tablet provide driving personnel with real-time information and enable stable communication with the control centre. As stand-alone on-board computers, connected to the IVU.box.gateway or IVU.box.railgateway, they offer the full range of functions of the IVU.ticket.box – only without integrated ticketing. A Bluetooth printer can be connected if required. The on-board computer can be combined with the IVU.validator for digital ticket inspection.
The IVU.box.touch for buses comes with a matching housing that is mounted on a mounting plate in the driver's cab. The housing is designed in such a way that the 10-inch screen is positioned at the same angle as the IVU.ticket.box, thus enabling optimum operability for the driving personnel.
The IVU.box.panel is the ideal on-board computer for trams. Designed for bi-directional operation, the device runs on the Linux operating system and is particularly robust - especially against impacts on uneven rails and insensitive to voltage fluctuations. Available in 7‑ and 10‑ inches, the device adapts flexibly to the space available in the driver's cab.
Using a tablet offers a simple, intuitive, and cost-effective on-board computer for buses. Together with the on-board computer software IVU.cockpit, a wide range of manufacturer-independent tablets can be reliably used as mobile on-board computers. The device is not permanently installed in the vehicle but is assigned to the personnel as a driver-related device – ideal for flexible deployment scenarios. With Android as the operating system, it is possible to install your own apps and make them accessible to personnel for external use. This provides maximum mobility, freedom of device choice, and easy integration into existing workflows.
IVU.handheld
Portable sales and inspection terminal
The ticket inspection unit IVU.handheld is a mobile ITCS solution. As a portable control terminal, it enables the validation of e-tickets and paper tickets. With the integrated card reader and an optionally available ticket printer, the IVU.handheld can also be used as a mobile sales terminal.
The IVU.handheld combines an inspection device for driving authorisation and a mobile sales system in one handy, portable device. It can be used flexibly by mobile employees - on the road, in pre-sales, or optionally with on-board computer functions in replacement vehicles. It has an 8-inch LCD display and is temperature-resistant from -10°C to +50°C. Thanks to the multi-touch display and integrated brightness sensors, the screen adapts perfectly to the ambient conditions. The tempered glass surface of the IVU.handheld makes the device highly resistant to cracks and glass breakage. The IVU.handheld is also IP54 certified and therefore dust and splash-proof.
The IVU.handheld uses Android as its operating system and thus enables the integration of customised apps - depending on the requirements of the respective transport company. Thanks to GUI3++ as the user interface, the IVU.handheld offers a seamless user experience for IVU.cockpit across all IVU on-board systems.
The IVU.handheld is fully equipped for communication and localisation, including mobile radio, WLAN, Bluetooth and GPS. A mobile ticket printer, such as the Honeywell MPD31D, can be connected via Bluetooth or USB to issue e-tickets and paper tickets. The ticket printer is small and lightweight, making it ideal for mobile ticket sales.
For cashless payment functions, the IVU.handheld is equipped with a permanently installed PCI and VDV-KA-certified card reader. This allows payment cards and NFC to be read and barcodes to be scanned using the integrated camera.
