Ticket inspection devices
Flexible use for ticket inspection and sales
Mobile use or stationary inspection - with the ticket inspection devices from IVU for buses and trams, you can speed up boarding, enable user-operated ticket sales and relieve the burden on drivers in their everyday work.
The ticket inspection devices IVU.handheld and IVU.validator for public transport are the ideal solution for a wide range of application scenarios. Both devices are primarily designed for ticket inspection but can also be configured as sales terminals.
The IVU.validator can be installed as a reader for boarding control at the vehicle doors and is optionally available there as a passenger-operated sales terminal. With the IVU.handheld, mobile employees can carry out ticket inspections and sell paper and e-tickets. The IVU.handheld can also be used as an on-board computer in advance sales or with the appropriate holder in minibuses and shuttle buses - a portable all-round talent among IVU's on-board systems.
Both ticket inspection devices, IVU.validator and IVU.handheld, are temperature-resistant and particularly robust. Multi-touch displays and integrated brightness sensors facilitate use even in challenging lighting conditions. The integrated e-ticket readers make it easy to scan and validate barcodes, QR codes and chip cards.

IVU.handheld
Portable sales and inspection terminal
The ticket inspection unit IVU.handheld is a mobile ITCS solution. As a portable control terminal, it enables the validation of e-tickets and paper tickets. With the integrated card reader and an optionally available ticket printer, the IVU.handheld can also be used as a mobile sales terminal.
The IVU.handheld combines an inspection device for driving authorisation and a mobile sales system in one handy, portable device. It can be used flexibly by mobile employees - on the road, in pre-sales, or optionally with on-board computer functions in replacement vehicles. It has an 8-inch LCD display and is temperature-resistant from -10°C to +50°C. Thanks to the multi-touch display and integrated brightness sensors, the screen adapts perfectly to the ambient conditions. The tempered glass surface of the IVU.handheld makes the device highly resistant to cracks and glass breakage. The IVU.handheld is also IP54 certified and therefore dust and splash-proof.
The IVU.handheld uses Android as its operating system and thus enables the integration of customised apps - depending on the requirements of the respective transport company. Thanks to GUI3++ as the user interface, the IVU.handheld offers a seamless user experience for IVU.cockpit across all IVU on-board systems.
The IVU.handheld is fully equipped for communication and localisation, including mobile radio, WLAN, Bluetooth and GPS. A mobile ticket printer, such as the Honeywell MPD31D, can be connected via Bluetooth or USB to issue e-tickets and paper tickets. The ticket printer is small and lightweight, making it ideal for mobile ticket sales.
For cashless payment functions, the IVU.handheld is equipped with a permanently installed PCI and VDV-KA-certified card reader. This allows payment cards and NFC to be read and barcodes to be scanned using the integrated camera.
The range of functions of IVU.handheld
an overview
The IVU.handheld enables efficient ticket validation and recording of data on the increased penalty fare (IPF). E-tickets and paper tickets are validated in accordance with current industry standards, while the integrated card reader reliably reads smart cards. An optional hand strap and shoulder strap can be ordered for safe and comfortable use.
The IVU.handheld can be securely mounted in the vehicle using a special bracket without interfering with the driver during driving. In minibuses and shuttle buses, it handles all ticketing tasks and provides support with important ITCS functions. This turns the IVU.handheld into a compact and powerful on-board computer.
As a mobile ticketing solution, the IVU.handheld is also ideal for advance ticket sales, e.g. in kiosks or points of sale with limited space. In combination with a Bluetooth ticket printer, such as the Honeywell MPD31D, paper tickets can be issued quickly and conveniently.
IVU.validator
User-friendly and fast ticket inspection
The IVU.validator (also known as e-ticket terminal) is a stationary inspection device for buses and trams that enables automated, passenger-operated ticket validation. Checking e-tickets and paper tickets within seconds reduces waiting times and optimises the passenger flow in the vehicle.
As an inspection terminal, the IVU.validator supports all common ticket media - from contactless smart cards (NFC) to QR and barcodes to classic paper tickets. The user-friendly interface ensures accessibility with higher contrasts, making it easier to use for people with colour blindness. Visual LED displays and acoustic signals provide clear feedback, while the high-resolution touch display always adapts optimally to the ambient conditions thanks to brightness sensors.
The validator/e-ticket terminal is compatible with any on-board computer and connects wirelessly or via network cable via the vehicle's internal router to communicate in real time with the electronic fare management (EFM) and other ITCS systems. The device is certified as standard-compliant for use as a sales and inspection terminal for use in public transport vehicles and, thanks to its robust design, guarantees a service life of up to 10 years - even under extreme operating conditions with temperatures from -20 °C to +60 °C.
With the IVU.validator, transport companies can rely on reliable, automated ticket validation - for smooth operations and satisfied passengers.
